One prominent research area at CIRTex involves the incorporation of nanotechnology, which permits the manipulation of materials on a molecular level. Functional fabrics are chemically and physically designed to have specific new properties, such as enhanced strength, ability to transport moisture, filter water/air, or selectively repel or attract oil/water. Due to their large surface area, fabrics provide infinite attachment points for generating new combinations of these properties through the application of nanotechnology.
