Biological Textiles

This research area establishes a direct link between biology and textiles, typically by using fabrics as growth substrates. Our understanding of the ways in which humanity can leverage biology is changing, and it is becoming clear that harnessing nature, and thereby designing with natural systems, can be hugely beneficial. At CIRTex, we are researching fabrics that respond to and interact with biological systems for various new applications relating to cosmetics, personal health, agriculture, and architecture.
